Understanding My Functional Medicine Coaching Appointments
1. Initial Comprehensive Assessment
This visit is a one-time discounted consultation that gives you the opportunity to meet with me 1-on-1 via Zoom to discuss your health goals.
Prior to this visit, you fill out a comprehensive health history form and upload any labs you have already had run (up to 2 years of history) to the Client Portal. About a week later we have a Zoom call to go over what trends there are in your health and how Functional Medicine Coaching can help you.
After this visit then you can decide if you want to sign up with me to work on those goals and improve your health trends.
There is no obligation to sign up for a program based on this first visit.
Lab Consultations for My Online Lab Service
If you have run labs via my virtual lab service through Rupa Health, you can use this Initial Comprehensive Assessment appointment to do a one-off consultation to help you interpret those lab results.
You will still need to fill out the comprehensive health history if you haven’t done so before, as this is critical to meaningful lab interpretation. Remember that labs are a snapshot in time and are only a single piece of health data in a much broader picture of your overall health.
FAQ:
Do you offer shorter consultations to answer quick health questions?
This is a common question. In short, no, I don’t offer quick consultations.
Functional Medicine practitioners typically avoid quick consultations for individuals whose health history they do not know because functional medicine is rooted in understanding the full complexity of a person’s health.
The Functional Medicine approach involves analyzing a detailed medical history, lifestyle, and environmental factors to identify root causes of health issues. Without this comprehensive context, offering advice could be inaccurate or even harmful, as symptoms often stem from interconnected or underlying conditions that require thorough evaluation. A short consultation risks oversimplifying complex health concerns, which goes against the personalized and holistic principles of functional medicine.
2. Why Multiple Month Packages Instead of Single Visits?
Great Question! Functional Medicine coaching is not a quick process. There is a lot that happens during these months that we work together.
This includes possible testing, which takes time to order, get results back, and discuss findings. It may involve supplements which take time to order, get shipped, begin taking, and then several weeks to see results. It can also involve changes in diet, which take time for people to adapt to, and potential lifestyle changes.
Since everyone is unique and each person receives a unique set of recommendations, there are often course corrections along the way. (This is what truly customized healthcare looks like!). These course corrections can be due to bad reactions to a particular supplement, trying different strategies to reduce stress, making different dietary changes, etc. These changes also take time to have effect.
The exact time needed to get someone on the way to optimum health looks different for everyone, so I have different plans depending on a person’s comfort level of commitment and the estimated time to address that individual’s unique health goals.
I also provide you with a number of customized handouts and resources along the way, depending on what your needs are. Additionally, you get access to some health tracking aspects of my client portal if you choose to use them. Many people choose to use their own, and this is fine.
Questions About Pricing?
Rupa Health published an article about the average cost of seeing a Functional Medicine practitioner in the United States article about the average cost of seeing a Functional Medicine practitioner in the United States. Intentional Wellness’ pricing is right at the average price for the US.
Does Insurance Cover Your Services?
Generally, insurance does not cover the cost of Functional Medicine. Some insurance companies may provide reimbursement, but that you must find out from your individual insurance company by calling their customer support number.
